Residential Cruises

Information about residential cruise ships and floating cities.

Residence Cruise Ships

The Magellan
210 condominiums in a $750 million shop called the Magellan. Ship amenities inclue four fine dining restaurants, two swimming pools, a tennis court, a retractable marina, two putting greens, an obsevatory, a heliport, a span a casino, a market, a microbrewery, and a 430 seat theater. Each condominium features a kitchen with stainless steel appliances and granite surfaces, marble bathrooms, china, crystal, and spectacular ocean view. The last time I checked the prices for full ownership of of of these condominiums ranged from about $4 million to $18 million for floor plans from 1130 to 4330 square feet in size.

The World
This Florida based company manages "The World", a residential cruise ship with restaurants, swimming pools, tennis courts, a library, a health spa, a fitness center, and golf greens. Units are available for purchase or for rent. Managed by Residensea.

Freedom Ship
The original concept for this flating community was not really a single ship, it was a series of residential barges a mile long and 25 stories tall. The original concept included parks, playgrounds, apartments, businesses, schools, casinos, and shopping malls. It was to be energy self sufficient and able to accommodate 40,000 full time residents and 60,000 total occupants. It will not dock at destinations, but rather air transportation will be used to supply the ship and transport residents to and from the shore. The Freedom Ship is still looking for funding, and I believe the proposed design has been significantly changed over the years. See also the Wikipedia Freedom Ship Article.
